I COULD NOT put this book down! I Loved this book, even better than the first, which I loved!

Warning.... You will be up so late reading this book. I could not put it down. I found myself hiding from the family to leave me alone already, and let me read!! It's even better than the first book, which I really, really liked. Cassie has grown and matured a lot in this one, and Will has much more to say, in fact, he takes over the reins on this one for the majority of the book. Which I LOVE By the way! I just love Will, he is a nice strong, and interesting character. We also get to find out about some more children of the psi. Some that have been around since the beginning of the first book, and a few new few new ones. I love how Will and Cassie seem to strengthen each other's abilities, and that their abilities are growing too.

This book starts right were Dreaming Dangerously: Children of the Psi Book One leaves off, at dream #12 that Cassie has, and the man that is dream stalking her.
I love that Ashley Wilder has a bigger role to play. Will finds out why she wears gloves all the time for instance. She has some secrets of her own.

He imagined the couple to be more ordinary, to avoid bringing attention to themselves. Instead, the two looked like they'd just walked out of Teen Beat magazine. She was all blonde hair and long legs, wearing some lacy blouse and skirt combo with boots, and he's jeans and an Abercrombie t-shirt. A short bleached-blonde man arrived with them as well as Will's grandfather, who carried himself, shoulders back, eyes darting around the room, always aware, always on guard, instinctively knowing where to find the exits.

Love these guys; we get some cute funny parts like that from time to time, and some more danger and thrills in this book.

I love how this cover has a transparent photo of I am guessing Will, and the first book a transparent photo of Cassie. At first I did not see that in these covers, but finally noticed it.

So we have:

A tattoo guy mind stalking Cassie and controlling her body remotely.

He wants them to do something for him, which involves a kidnapping, which last time I check is illegal, and Cassie is having vision/dreams that are putting her inside a young girl.

Another mind-stalker which she calls a Dark presence.

Will does not trust this tattoo guy.

Will finds out he has more family that he never knew he had, and wishes they were not his family.

Will does something that will have you freaking out at the end. Big cliffhanger!

I can't wait until the next book is out. I will be getting it right away.

A must read, anyone who likes a little paranormal with sci-fi will love this book.

Summary:

Book 2 It ROCKS!!!!

I just finished the second book in this series. The writer did a fantastic job of adding new characters while still focasing on the core with Cassie and Will. It reminds me some of the tv show "Heroes". Which was one of my favorite all time shows. I am 50 years old yet I still love young adult fiction. Growing up with the likes of "The Hardy Boys" and "The Three Investigators". I recently read the adult version of "The Left Behind Series " as well as the young adult version of that series. I see this series taking off like those did. If you like intrigue, surprising twists, and left wanting more you will love the "Children of the PSI" series. Mrs. Harsch has a great handle on what the young adults (and older adults as well) will enjoy. I look forward to book 3. What is going to happen to Will? Will the new kids be able to help Cassie? How will my favorite character Ashley continue to evolve? Book 3 can't get here soon enough.

When the first edition of World War II: A Short History appeared in 1989, the conflict had already inspired over 70,000 volumes. The number has risen steadily since then. In this fourth edition, I again have incorporated material from the vast array of new literature, along with suggestions from readers. In particular, I have increased coverage of the Holocaust as well as German occupation policies and the issues of collaboration and resistance among European peoples. I have also expanded the chapter on the home fronts in the chief belligerent countries and have devoted more attention to Japan in the period preceding the war as well as in regard to the Japanese biological and chemical warfare program. In addition, I have dwelt to a greater extent on the intense hatred between Americans id Japanese that marked the war in the Pacific and set it apart to some extent from the conflict between the Western Allies and Germany. I have added a section on early efforts to break the German cipher that eventually enabled the Allies to read enemy messages on a regular basis, the process known by the code name "Ultra." In the light of new research, I have modified my analysis on the German victory in the West in 1940 to a certain degree. I have also focused in greater detail on the Allied landings in Normandy. Finally, I have interjected as much material as possible to illustrate what it was like to be a fighting man during the war. I have tried to accomplish all of this without expanding the book to un-manageable length. It is, after all, billed as a short history. By its very nature, it cannot cover everything in the detail one might like.

My basic purpose in this edition is still the same as that which prompted me to write the first: to satisfy the needs of the college student in the classroom as well as those of the general reader. At the same time, I have sought to provide a relatively brief synthesis of the work of other scholars that the professional historian will find useful. With these aims in mind, I have endeavored neither to overestimate the reader's knowledge of the subject nor to insult his or her intelligence by being too elementary. In pursuit of this elusive goal, I have attempted to fashion a book that is readable, informative, understandable, and interesting. Each reader will determine how well I have succeeded.

Though focusing primarily on the Second World War, I have examined the many factors that combined to cause that terrible calamity as well as the most significant effects of the conflict. Obviously, in a work of this scope, it has been necessary to deal selectively and summarily with the highly complex history of the decades preceding the outbreak of hostilities in 1939 and the period that followed the defeat of Germany and Japan in 1945. I have also striven to present a balanced account that does justice to both the European and Pacific theaters of operations and the connections between them. The global conflagration gave birth to innumerable controversies, and I have done my best `to analyze the most important of these while often presenting my own views as to the best interpretations to place on them.

Any author incurs numerous debts in writing and publishing a book. Mine start with the late Professor Harold C. Deutsch, whose masterful course at the University of Minnesota kindled my fascination with the Second World War. Thanks also go to the many students who enrolled in my own World War II course at North Dakota State University during a period of over two decades. Their obvious interest helped stimulate my dedication to this project. Professor Archer Jones offered encouragement and advice during his years as dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. A Very Good General Text On WWII!

This interesting and very well written book is intended as a general text book for teaching purposes, and as such is geared to a more basic and general understanding of the broad sweep, causes, course, and effects of the Second World War than it is a revealing or thought-provoking examination or reinterpretation of all the evidence such as Weinberg's magisterial "A World At Arms" or Murray and Millet's comprehensive "A War To Be Won". That being said, it is indeed an excellent text, now in its third edition.
Written by author Michael J. Lyons, it comprises a very readable overview of every salient aspect in the war, albeit briefly, in all the political, diplomatic, economic, military and human dimensions in which the war was played out. Not only does it quite adequately detail the significant events precipitating the conflict, but also describes very well the manifest consequences of the defeat of both Germany and Japan. Lyons gives us a reader-friendly account of both European and Pacific campaigns, and provides a lot of interesting and useful connections between the two fronts.
Long in use, the book is generally regarded as being quite literate and yet eminently readable, hence its wide use in college classrooms. The text not only provides the kind of comprehensive overview students need to make sense of such an overwhelming historical phenomenon as WWII, but also serves to illuminate the mechanics behind the origins, course, and consequent long-term effects of that war, providing a well reasoned and balanced overview that while uncontroversial, also pulls few punches regarding causes and effects. I would recommend its purchase for anyone wanting a nice hardbound overview that is easy to read and also relatively kind to one's limited resources. Enjoy

Review of Lyons' World War II: A Short History

The book definitely offers a good overview of the EUROPEAN part of World War II, from diplomatic, economic, military before and during the conflict. Lyons offers a balanced view of conflict and that would both be suitable for academics and general readers alike. Lyons' style also provide the wealth of information in an interesting way.
However, Lyons' spent most of its time on Europe and overlooks the World War II outside the Western Hemisphere. It would be easy to overlook that China and Japan has already began fighting in July 1937, over two years before Germany invaded Poland on September 1939.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Frederick Nolan, a.k.a. ‘Frederick H. Christian’, was born in Liverpool, England and was educated there and at Aberaeron in Wales. He decided early in life to become a writer, but it was some thirty years before he got around to achieving his ambition. His first book was The Life and Death of John Henry Tunstall, and along the way he became an authority on the history of the American frontier, founder of The English Westerners' Society, and something of a connoisseur of western fiction in the days when it was a flourishing literary genre.

In addition to the Angel westerns, Fred also wrote five entries in the popular ‘Sudden’ series started by Oliver Strange. Among his numerous books is the best-selling The Oshawa Project (published as The Algonquin Project in the US) which was later filmed by MGM as Brass Target, starring Sophia Loren, John Cassavetes, Max von Sydow, George Kennedy, and Robert Vaughn.

A leading authority on the outlaws and gunfighters of the Old West, he has scripted and appeared in many television programs both in England and in the United States, and authored numerous articles in historical and other academic publications. His award-winning books on Southwestern frontier history include The Life and Death of John Henry Tunstall (1965), The Lincoln County War: A Documentary History (a New York Times ‘Book of the Year’ in 1992), Bad Blood: The Life and Times of the Horrell Brothers (1994), The West of Billy the Kid (1998), an annotated edition of Pat Garrett’s Authentic Life of Billy the Kid (2000), and a popular introduction to the history of the frontier, The Wild West: History, Myth and the Making of America, published in 2003.

Pretty heady stuff but interesting. The main character is a little hard to believe but it makes for attention-getting reading. He is kinda like an early time James Bond (without the fancy gadgets).

Great book for those starting with meditation.

Did you know meditation is good for your mind, soul, and health? This is a great book for someone that is just getting started with meditation.
Meditation does not have to be hard or very time consuming. It’s all about taking time out of your busy day to concentrate on you. There are many 10 minute exercises.
No matter who you are, what kind of life you lead; we can all benefit from the practice of meditation. It’s a great way to reduce stress and anxiety without medication.
This was a quick read and great to have on hand when you need to just relax and close off your mind for a few minutes.

A Must-Have Beginner's Guide

Since I was a teenager, I've had a deeper understanding of meditation than most. I don't say that to sound conceited, but just to give you a better understanding of my experience prior to having read this book. I have read numerous guides, watched numerous tutorials, and have studied up on the science behind meditation.

With that said, I "fell off" of the wagon into my adult years and more recently, have attempted to reconnect with the more spiritual side of myself. I found this book to be exactly what I needed to refresh my mind and jump back into the art of meditation.

This guide is a true beginner's guide, and helps you to take a look at your thoughts to apply new ways of thinking so that you may gain a stronger appreciation of even the most (seemingly) trivial moments. You'll learn how to meditate, when to meditate, positions in which to meditate, as well as methods for practicing almost anywhere.

What I loved the most was that the book discusses the importance of BEFRIENDING the internal chatter in your mind, instead of simply repressing it. This is critical to maintaining a quality meditative state and is incredibly important when you're just starting out. I recommend this book to beginner's, intermediates, and those looking to reconnect with their inner selves.

Meditation Now is a Life Enhancing Book that is a Joy to Read

What I love about Meditation Now is that it is not only a thoroughly informative book for the beginner, but it is so enjoyable to read. It's a fine example of "the medium is the message," since I began to find myself in a very quiet, peaceful state after reading just a few chapters. There are so many excellent features of the book. Meditation is explained in an academic, cerebral way, but the author also makes it simple to understand. There are practical plans for ten minute meditations that even the busiest professional can fit into his or her day. Stress is one of the worst enemies of physical and mental health, and meditation is probably the best and most potent antidote. Best of all, meditation is all natural and free, and anyone can do it. Meditation begins with a sitting practice in which the individual focuses on breath and internal awareness. There are also ways to meditate with movement. My favorite passage is about walking meditation "kissing the earth" with the soles of your feet and leaving imaginary pink and white lotus blossoms where you have just stepped. Creative passages like that made reading this book a true pleasure. A copy of the book was provided to me at no cost in exchange for an impartial review.

The Russian Civil War of 1917-1921 was a cataclysmic series of overlapping conflicts. It was a pivotal event in modern history, and left a deep imprint on the participants and their descendants for decades after its end. It was the Bolshevik victory in this bloody struggle, not in the skirmishes on the streets of Petrograd and Moscow in October 1917, which secured the victory of Soviet Communism and provided its legitimacy for seventy years of rule. The narrowness of Lenin's victory, and the principles for which his opponents fought, have been largely neglected. This book traces the clash between the 'Reds' of the Moscow-based Soviet regime and the 'Whites', the militaristic, counter-revolutionary governments which were established around the periphery of Russia and aided by Allied interventionists. In particular, it details the epic history of the White movement in Siberia, and the fortunes of its leader, Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak, the 'Supreme Ruler' of Russia. Using a wide range of contemporary sources, Jonathan Smele examines Kolchak's political and military record, and concludes that the White defeat resulted as much from the harsh facts of Siberian economy and geography as from failures of White policy and leadership.

An indispensable book

This book fills a huge gap in the literature about the Russian Civil War. The Siberian theatre hasn't been the subject of a monograph since the 1930s, and only Canfield Smith's wonderful book on the events in Vladivostok during 1920-1922 gave the reader an in-depth look at a part of the complicated sequence of events east of the Ural mountains. Dr.Smele's book is the first in-depth treatment in any language of Kolchak's government, how it came to be, why it performed so poorly in all its tasks as it did, and what became of it. The political intrigue, the rather inept leadership of Kolchak himself, the tragically inept military efforts - after reading this book the reader may wonder how Kolchak managed to do as well as he did (at first). I have found this book to be an indispensable reference work. In addition, it is beautifully written - perhaps not an important consideration for a scholarly work, but definitely a feature that makes reading this book a pleasure. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in Siberia and/or the Russian Civil War.
