The book I would write if I had more talent, if I weren't so disorganized and if I were not such a lazy person.

This book is the reason I support indie authors who self publish on Amazon. Yes, granted, I have paid for a lot of poorly written, half baked ideas with little to no editing...I do this because partly because I want the author to know that maybe I liked his concept for a story, or I actually do like his half baked idea. Mostly I do it for same reason that the same crazy looking people always come to my house every time I have a garage sale. That one time...that one Elvis commerative plate that they paid 50� for that turned out to be worth $100, that one great find that nobody was aware of.

This is one of those books for me.

This author has written a sci-fi story that contains several things that make it great. First, a believeable, likeable protagonist. Second, a great cast of fleshed out, supporting characters that you feel like contribute to the story. Third, the author manages to write the plot of a story that progresses in a believable, awesome fashion despite its futuristic setting. Easier said than done. Lastly, this author writes combat, and hand to hand violence in a really gripping fashion in a way that not a lot of authors are capable of doing. It's intense, real and most importantly, authentic.

Worth it....Trust me....a random guy on the Internet...trust me anyway...

Elliott Kay is a very witty man.

Having read him before, I already knew this, of course. But it was quickly reinforced in the first three dozen pages - Elliott Kay is a very witty man.

Poor Man's Fight is a fairly quick read and the story is fairly fast-paced. The major players are revealed quickly and gracefully, and the major conflicts are neatly foreshadowed in the first few chapters. By the finish, you'll realize that you've just elegantly wrapped up a dozen plot threads you hadn't quite realized were there. A very well-crafted, highly entertaining story. It took a day of my life, and I was happy to give it.

Dialogue is probably Kay's strongest point. Characters banter and chatter, and it feels natural. They commiserate. They argue. They fight. And by the end, you know them. Especially Malone, who - while not always *likable* - is immensely human. Even when he's knee-deep in blood.

If you like military sci-fi and are a person with $2.99 (plus tax, if applicable), you should purchase this book immediately.

Enjoyable book

I picked up this book based simply on amazons recommendations based on my reading habits. Unfortunately this does not always work out, but this time it was simply fabulous. Superb editing, if there were any flaws or mistakes I did not even see them. The story was fun, action packed and the scenes were set up in a way that made it all seem within the realm of possibility.

I stopped reading this book halfway through to see if there were any other books by this author. I bought the only other book and then finished up Poor Man's Fight. I will be recommending this book to friends and truly hope the author gets a sequel out soon. Unlikely due to when this was published but I can hope.

Read it, you will be glad you did.

Lacks recommendations, is a dry source of basic info

I have a number of issues with this book:

1. Instead of giving recommendations as to where to go, this book describes a hundred little towns without giving any significant details. For example, when trying to decide what town to visit on the Western Coast I can read through fifty short descriptions of tiny villages that all sound exactly the same paired with 3-4 hotel and restaurant options for each one and sometimes no sights listed at all. The book fails to recommend one town over another (perhaps one is more convenient as a home base, perhaps one has more quality sights). I'd rather the book suggest fewer locations with more detail and actually described the pros and cons of staying in each town. I can look up village locations and accommodations pretty easily on my own, but I buy guide books to help guide me to the best spots. This book gives almost no recommendations. For example, Cappadocia seems to be a cluster of small towns. Is there an ideal town to stay in that will allow me to visit the others as day trips? Is a rental car a worthwhile investment? All this book tells me is that the towns exist, they have a few sights (1-3) and a few hotels/restaurants (1-3). As far as strategy for maximizing my time and seeing the most sights, this book has nothing to offer.

2. The book does a horrible job of describing what there is to do in each location. For example, when describing Goreme in Cappadocia the book wastes almost the entire "Sights" section describing the Goreme Open-Air Museum in excruciating detail (follow the path, turn right). This is only ONE sight. Then it shortly lists three other churches and a park for a total of five sights. Yet it lists twelve different places to sleep. And Goreme is the town in Cappadocia with the most sights listed which means the others are even more sparse. I did a simple search on Tripadvisor and found a dozen other highly rated things to do.

3. The most frustrating thing about this book is that it is not consistent about how it lists prices. Sometimes prices are listed in Turkish Lira, other times they are listed in Euro. This makes it difficult to compare different accommodations because the reader has to constantly convert prices to judge which place is the better deal.

This book fails because it lacks the insider tips and helpful opinions that make other travel guides successful. I want a recommendation, not a grocery list of names. So far the internet has been far more helpful in providing me with what I need. I will still bring this book along but it will not be my primary source for planning my trip.

Comprehensive, accurate guide for Turkey

Just got back from a 10-day trip to Turkey. Like all Lonely Planet guides, found it very comprehensive and useful for our itinerary that included Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Alacati/Ephesus. It's a good frame of reference for restaurants, bars, hotels, etc. Like all travel guides, however, I think Lonely Planet guides are a good frame and it's always nice to supplement with local blogs, other travelers, local Turks, etc.

Very good. Possibly the best lonely planet I've encountered

Very good. Possibly the best lonely planet I've encountered. The writers are entertaining and good at pointing out things a place does have to offer, rather than what it doesn't (unlike some lonely planets). My only criticism is that it lacks cheaper accommodation options particularly in a lot of smaller or out of the way towns. Mid range hotels are generally plentiful and easy to find, whereas the budget spots are often less so. This was a little annoying, as it was one of the main reasons I bought the book.

Another above-par undegrad intro to methods for geographers in training

This book, along with its counter part, KEY CONCEPTS IN GEOGRAPHY, would be my first choice for undergrad geography majors, whether emphasizing cultural, physical or both. As I said in another review, the Brits seem to have it together when creating digestable material for their students of geography. Highly recommended as supplements to the standard physical and cultural geography textbooks used in the U.S.

Protests Against U.S. Military Base Policy in Asia answers these questions by examining state response to twelve major protests in Asia since the end of World War II—in the Philippines, Okinawa, and South Korea.

Yuko Kawato lays out the conditions under which protesters' normative arguments can and cannot persuade policy-makers to change base policy, and how protests can still generate some political or military incentives for policy-makers to adjust policy when persuasion fails. Kawato also shows that when policy-makers decide not to change policy, they can offer symbolic concessions to appear norm-abiding and to secure a smoother implementation of policies that protesters oppose. While the findings will be of considerable interest to academics and students, perhaps their largest impact will be on policy makers and activists, for whom Kawato offers recommendations for their future decision-making and actions.

About the Author
My husband and I married in 1991 and bought our first house in Engadine. We commenced purchasing property in Sydney and renovated these properties for subsequent sale. I worked in Sydney as a Personal Assistant for many years, mainly in the financial district. I thoroughly enjoyed my role and its benefits including managing people and expanding my computer skills. My experience enabled me to have high level input with training as well as assisting directors on a day to day basis. I absolutely loved it. My husband and I bought a boarding kennel and cattery in 2000 which we still own and operate. We branched out in 2004 and bought a cattle farm in Brogo. We commenced cutting our teeth on larger animals and started breeding commercial Black Angus cows. We renovated a derelict old dairy and commenced extensive works on renovating the paddocks as well as running our boarding kennel. Leasing our kennel has allowed us to live at the farm for 3 years. I enjoy researching how to grow our own food, raise our sheep and cattle, and how best to market our produce. We built a free range egg farm from scratch at our farm and commenced producing our own label ‘Free Rangers & the Cheeky Chicks’. Our customers up and down the south coast absolutely loved our eggs and we loved providing the real mccoy. We have recently and reluctantly sold our flock to settle back into our kennel for a short period. I enjoy exercise; love my 4 Shetland Sheepdogs and am an enthusiastic food grower. I have no previous publishing experience. I am working on book 2 – a continuation of my current book. My second book tackles the issue of where, why and how the public perceives people with backgrounds like mine. My main thrust in this book is the continuation of abuse to children and the silence that persists around this subject. The many judicial enquiries do not answer for me the question of why so many people, who claim to find child sexual abuse disgusting, remain silent.

Honest, courageous, matter of fact

Yasmine's recounting of the horror she was subjected to as a child is as chilling as it is sad. I have heard of similar events from friends, but never told with the same level of directness. This suggests to me that she can separate herself from these events - as she should - and direct the accountability to where it belongs in totality. She's a remarkable woman and her perseverance throughout her childhood and young adulthood is nothing short of inspirational.

Sad something like this could happen.

This story will have a hard impact on you. And to think the author was able to survive this ordeal, and be normal. There is more minute detail in the story then necessy, and it makes reading confusing and tiresome. That caused me to scan some of the pages and skip by them if they did not have real relevance to the story. However, I recommend reading this book because of the sad real life story it tells.
