I lost count of how many PUA books I read. What seperates John Alanis is he actually breaks down the important things. The other guys don't know how to write. John Alanis actually takes you through important step after important step. No nonsense, no stupid girly headgames, just reality. Its funny how I see girls with a guy who's got a limp wrist, a womans posture, and then I hear that same girl complain that he's so girly it actually makes her sick. It sucks how the btch boys usually get the girls. After reading this manual I dramatically noticed how women do talk to me. Now I know what's wrong and right. That's the great thing about John Alanis he explains what your doing wrong and right.

Looking for a grand adventure, bravery, honor, dragons, magic and something you can't put down?

Well, if you've made it this far, it means you've read the 1st 2 books - if you haven't, better to put this one down, and read the 1st 2 - why? Because you'd miss out on how all the unlikely hero's of the story started their journeys from misfits, skinny little boys getting into trouble, and the village outcast develop into very well developed characters, definitely not one dimensional, and cheer them on, as they meet the challenges that wait for them. This is a very good trilogy - I was doubtful when I saw the number of 4 and 5 star reviews, but after reading it, I think it actually does deserve all five stars. I had grown worried that I'd not find another author who could make me stay up all night reading, but this one certainly does deliver all of the good reviews it's received. (It's no "Wheel of Time" Robert Jordan , but still a great read that will pull you in and keep you up late as you read "just one more chapter", lol ) I now wish I hadn't read this in one marathon session - what do I have to look forward to tomorrow?!)

Useful Introductory Text

This text is considered one of the key references for dislocation theory and dynamics, in addition to J.P. Hirth and J. Lothe text, as well as, D. Hull and D.J. Bacon introductory book. The target audience is upper-division undergraduates in materials science or metallurgy. I find the text to be well written and includes almost complete derivations. The illustration and figures; although simple, are informative and convey the intended message ( would be nice if a upon a newer edition figures were expanded upon and more detailed). The problems provided at the end of each chapter are useful for extending ones knowledge, however, they are challenging (no solutions are provided). If your looking for a dedicated introductory text to dislocations this is a good start.

Doris A. Graber is professor of political science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has written and edited numerous articles and books on the media and public opinion, including Mass Media and American Politics, Eighth Edition, The Politics of News: The News of Politics, Second Edition, The Power of Communication: Managing Information in Public Organizations, and Processing Politics: Learning from Television in the Internet Age, which won the 2003 Goldsmith Book Prize. This award is given by the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics, and Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Excellent survey reader.

Well-edited overview of complex field. I _ Robert A. Rankin (Jake Barnes is a nom de plume) _ use it in my Media & Politics course at Randolph-Macon College, where I'm an adjunct professor. I spent 30 years as a Washington journalist and hold two degrees in political science. This volume includes perspectives from both academics and practitioners. My only criticism is that it dropped several wonderful contributions from previous editions _ such as Walter Lippmann on the fallibilities of newspapers _ to make room for new ones, also good. Such is life. Excellent volume.

Tremendously Valuable

I purchased this book for a course I was taking in mass media and communications and was highly impressed the amalgamation of authors that the editor brought together. Being obviously designed for academia, the book is a collection of exerts from the works of top academics in the field. The thirty plus essays cover a wide variety of topics and perspectives, from questioning the citizen's ability to comprehend the information needed to make informed voting decisions, to questing the media's ability to offer the type of information needed to make those decisions in the first place. The book is simply invaluable.

I read this book accompanied by American Public Opinion, which established where Americans stand on a wide variety of issues. The two works read together will leave the readers radically enlightened on the mass media's past and contemporary effects of American politics.
