Matheson's classic novella is the reason for that. As Scott Carey -- husband, father, and all-around decent guy -- mysteriously shrinks, he faces unimagined horrors at every step, up to the story's surprising resolution. Richard Matheson Has Always Been A Great Storyteller

This is a great book! If you had seen the 1957 film (not the 1981 Lily Tomlin comedy) and wanted to read the story that it was based on, this is a must-have to add to your library. Also includes the original stories "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and "Duel" and some other stories by Richard Matheson, the best writer of sci-fi and suspense.

See the movie, The Incredible Shrinking Man

At the time it was written, it was almost revolutionary, now, it is quaint science fiction. The book is better than the original 1957 movie adaptation, but sci-fi has come a long way since and all for the better. That being said, it is a really good place to start in the sci-fi genre.
