Don't bother - this book isn't accurate.....

I was very disappointed with this book. As one of the few books out on NSX, I was hoping to get a head start learning NSX, but I found quickly that while the book does try to step you through the setup of NSX, there are many places where items are skipped completely. For example, there is no instruction as to where you specify the VXLAN numbers, but it is a necessary component prior to the vast majority of the setup of NSX. I recommend AGAINST this book and if I could give it negative stars, I would.

I think this book accomplishes exactly what it intended to as indicated by the title. This is a step by step guide that will assist in learning NSX. I see this as a supplement to standard documentation not a replacement for it or more formal training. If you are new to NSX and want to have one location to reference for installation and configuration guidance this is a great option. Shuffling between multiple PDF files may not be ideal so a single source is, in my opinion, valuable. I purchased both the print and eBook versions. If you already have experience or you want to pursue certification this would not be the right fit. If you are new to NSX or want to review an area that you have not previously configured then it would be a nice guide for your lab, test environment or VMware HOL. Overall it provides a good starting point and reference for those without vast NSX experience.

I just finished this book and I think it's a solid way for someone new to NSX to learn about the solution and how to deploy the various pieces. I'd recommend combining this reading with the NSX Design Guide (as mentioned in the "additional resources" section at the end of the book) to complete the full picture on WHY you might deploy NSX a certain way, as opposed to just "next, next, finish" type deployments. There are a fair amount of design considerations this book doesn't cover that are important when deploying NSX, but I'm not going to ding the book because that's probably a bit out of scope and maybe more oriented towards an implementation/design type publication.

G. Gregory Haff, PhD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA, is the course coordinator for the postgraduate degree in strength and conditioning at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup, Australia. Dr. Haff was the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year for Research and Education and the 2011 NSCA William J. He serves as a consultant for numerous sporting bodies, including teams in the Australian Football League, Australian Rugby Union, Australian Basketball Association, and National Football League.

N. Travis Triplett, PhD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA, is a professor and chairperson of the department of health and exercise science at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She has served as the secretary-treasurer of the board of directors for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and was the 2010 NSCA William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist award winner. She has served on two panels for NASA, one for developing resistance exercise countermeasures to microgravity environments for the International Space Station, and was a sports physiology research assistant at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I love working with Amazon's customer service

The first book that was ordered was damaged. As soon as Amazon was made aware of the situation they replaced it immediately. I love working with Amazon's customer service. They are on top of any complaint and work very hard to make things right. As far as this book, my son loves it. He has correspondence courses and/or textbooks through NASM, ACSM, ACE, ISSA, etc. but likes NSCA the most. Whether you are looking for a correspondence course or just want the book(s), NSCA's are well worth the money. He has gotten so much more information from them than in his other course textbooks so he would definitely recommend NSCA. Although they might be a bit more difficult to understand, in the end, this is the organization that you want to get your certification through and any NSCA book(s) are the ones to order. This particular book is in its 4th edition and comes with Web Resource. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the fitness industry or anyone wanting to further their knowledge in this area.

Very poorly written. It is informative as far as strength and conditioning goes, but very long drawn out and unnecessary speech.

Hint: skim all the BS and highlight the information then go back and read it

Hint #2 - the book does not give information about specific sports which will be the majority of questions on the test.

Hint #3 - drink lot's of coffee

Finally, useful, quality information about sports nutrition, supplementation, and the impact of various vitamins and minerals on the body!

This is the edition S&C professionals need, as it covers many of the gaps left behind by the 3rd edition's reliance on the USDA Food Pyramid and takes advantage of digital resources for exercise technique.
